Shannon Heritage are to receive €2m less funding than what had been sought and announced to keep Bunratty Castle & Folk Park and King John’s Castle open till the end of the year.
Shannon Group have insisted ‘an extensive marketing campaign’ was undertaken to entice domestic visitors to Mid-West attractions operated by Shannon Heritage.
Government funding has been allocated to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park and King John’s Castle to ensure they will remain open for the remainder of 2020.
President Michael D. Higgins has been contacted in a last-ditch attempt to keep Shannon Heritage operated sites in the Mid-West open beyond August 31st continues.
Leadership is needed to ensure one of the county’s most visited tourist sites does not close this month.
€6.4m is now being sought by Shannon Group in State aid to keep Bunratty Castle & Folk Park plus King John’s Castle open until June of next year.
Visitor numbers to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park and King John’s Castle have witnessed “a collapse” during the month of July, Shannon Group have stated.
