Strong representations are to be made at senior levels within Clare County Council to plead the case of enhancing the Shannon Recycling Centre.
Over 100 bags of rubbish were collected by members of Shannon Tidy Towns during An Taisce’s National Spring Clean held last month.
Mixed views were voiced on the prospect of skips being placed around Shannon Town as pay as you go rubbish bins in an attempt to tackle illegal dumping.
44 Tidy Towns groups in Co Clare have been allocated a combined €54,000 which they will be able to use despite the cancellation of this year’s competition.
Old and new members attended the AGM of Shannon Tidy Towns earlier this month where the town’s most successful outcome in the Tidy Towns competition was celebrated.
Clare’s current grass cutting policy for houses in estates owned by the Council is to be continued for the foreseeable future with a senior engineer observing that community groups tend to be “much more attentive” when taking on a role than paid employees.
