Parents and guardians are being urged to take cognisance of their children’s activity in Kilkee after youngsters were filmed jumping off a cliff edge believed to be eighty feet high.

On Friday videos of the diving emerged on social media with shock and horror expressed by viewers fearful of the major health and safety risks.

In one video, two boys are seen to jump from one location of the popular cliff walk into the sea with three more preparing to dive in. Several walkers of the route witnessed the carry-on which has been described as “absolutely crazy” by Kilkee councillor Cillian Murphy.

“What can only be termed lunacy back at the Cliffs, parents really need to be aware of where their children are at and what they are doing. This jump is approx 80 feet high, and one misjudged step back here and the best outcome is a permanent life changing injury, the more likely result is a fatality,” the Fianna Fáil representative stated.

Throughout the summer, Clare County Council has consistently reminded parents to supervise children near water and to only swim between red and yellow lifeguard flags.
