TWO people have been hospitalised following a traffic collision outside of Ennis on Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 5.45pm on the N85 relief road on the approach to the M18 motorway, in westbound lanes between the Skehanagh and Clare Abbey roundabouts.
The scene was attended by Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station. As well as National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí who attended the scene.
A lengthy traffic jam was caused by the collision as many people were using the busy commuter route at the time to return from work. The incident resulted in the left hard shoulder being blocked as a large bottleneck of traffic formed behind the site of the collision.
The passenger and driver from one of the cars involved were brought to hospital for treatment with non-serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle in the crash was assessed at the scene by emergency services but was not brought to hospital.
The road was fully reopened at 7.15pm that evening.
