REPAIRS are to be carried out on a damaged stretch of the R471 between Carmody’s Cross and Harrold’s Cross after concerns were raised over a “bad dip” on the busy regional road.
At the July meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District, Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) called for works to be undertaken on the section between Carmody’s Cross and Harrold’s Cross, describing the R471 as “a very busy thoroughfare”.
“It needs a small bit of attention to sort it out,” he said.
Responding to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer Declan Flanagan said an inspection confirmed a localised depression in the carriageway caused by the gradual subsidence of the road structure over time.
The location has since been prioritised for repairs, with a localised scheme included in the MD’s road maintenance programme.
The works are scheduled to be carried out during the third quarter of 2026 by direct labour, subject to the availability of resources and suitable weather conditions.
The repairs will address the subsidence, restore the road profile and improve the overall condition and safety of the regional road, Mr Flanagan said.
Welcoming the response, Cllr O’Callaghan said, “It’s going to be done and that’s it.”
The motion was seconded by Killaloe Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr Tony O’Brien (FF).
