GER CONWAY admitted Feakle were second best in their comprehensive defeat to Clooney/Quin but stressed their Clare SHC quarter-final hopes remain in their own hands.
Speaking following their comprehensive 4-17 0-13 loss in Dr Daly Park, the Feakle manager was visibly disappointed with his side’s display, where they conceded four first-half goals, while managing just three points from play after the break despite having the wind advantage.
Conway told The Clare Echo, “It’s the same old story, goals win games, but we weren’t at the races. We didn’t meet the urgency of anything, the speed of anything that Clooney brought today, we just didn’t match it, so overall it’s very disappointing”.

Heading into their final group game against Cratloe, Feakle’s fate remains in their own hands, with Conway feeling that was the one saving grace from suffering such a heavy loss. “That’s the only thing, it’s still all to play for. You win the final game and you’re still in a quarter-final. That was the outset at the start of the championship, get to it and you play it as far as that, and take your chances afterwards”.
Getting off to winning ways against O’Callaghan’s Mills means the 2024 county champions currently sit joint second in the group alongside their next opponents Cratloe. “As I’m just after saying to the players there, it’s still in our own hands and it’s still up to ourselves. Every team in the group has points on the board, we’ll see where it takes us”.
