M18 Galway/Limerick

A male in his sixties died following a road incident in Ennis on Tuesday afternoon.

Gardaí and four units from the Clare Fire Service were called upon to the M18 between Barefield and Ennis when a truck and car collided.

Shortly upon arriving on the scene, medical professionals pronounced the sole occupant of the car dead while the man driving the truck did not sustain any physical injuries.

It is anticipated that traffic diversions will remain in place on the motorway for the bulk of the evening.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Clare Echo, “The scene is currently being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local traffic diversions are expected to remain in place until later this evening. Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, anyone with information is asked to contact Ennis Garda Station on (065) 6848100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111”.
