THE Clare Roots Society will launch the latest edition to their series of local history books on Thursday.

This edition is based on Parnell Street/High Street formerly Mill Street, one of the oldest streets in Ennis town.

The book will be available at Ennis BookShop on Abbey Street, O’Connor’s in Market Street and Heaslips in O’Connell Street from Friday.

Written by Dublin based society member Lucille Ellis, the book explores Parnell Street’s transformation from Mill Street, detailing famine ,fire and floods throughout the centuries and the development of High Street and O’Connell Square.

This is Clare Roots Society 43rd publication since 2012 while this is Lucille’s 6th Publication having previously published other works.

In the foreword to the book Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF), Mayor of the Ennis Municipal District describes the book as “giving an insight chapter by chapter of the various businesses and persons of influence who shaped the fabric of the built heritage of this historic medieval street of Ennis”.

This book is part of a unique project involving Clare Roots Society with financial assistance and support from Ennis Municipal District. The main focus is on the families who lived in the houses in the one hundred and thirteen houses in Parnell Street and the sixteen houses on High Street and the Square.

Nostalgic conversations and old memories will be rekindled in the boot, there are 180 photographs in the book.
