*Alfsono D’Auria. Photograph: Martin Connolly It may have crossed his mind to contest the 2014 local elections but the weekend was Alfonso D’Auria’s first taste of politics as he attended his first election count following his attempt to win a seat on Clare County Council.

China’s Ambassador designate to Ireland visited Shannon Airport for the first time on Friday in what was his first tour outside of Dublin since arriving in Ireland on May 3rd.

Students in Clare are being deprived of their “right to education” as more than three dozen children in the county are without a second level place for September.
With visitor numbers at Doolin “increasing the whole time”, the announcement that progress is being made with the construction of a visitor centre has been welcomed.
