MAINTENANCE works have been sought for the approach to Clondegad GAA grounds.

Cllr Gabriel Keating (FG) proposed that Clare County Council carry out such works on the R473 outside Páirc Mhichil Ui Eithir in Ballynacally.

Senior executive engineer in the West Clare Municipal District, Alan Kennelly said the regional R473 “is in reasonably good condition”. He noted the stretch of road referenced in the proposal was not included in the 2022 Schedule of Municipal District Works but some sections around Ballynacally were included in the three year road works programme from 2022 to 2024.

He added, “I will look at this section of road with the local roads overseer and carry out any necessary repairs to the public road”.

Commitments from the Council were welcomed by Cllr Keating with Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) seconding the motion.

Founded in 1943, Clondegad GAA club has a long tradition of gaelic football. In May 1980, the club purchased its current field for £19,000. Three years later, dressing rooms were built with plastering, plumbing and electrical showers were all done voluntarily. Seating, painting and footpath were all completed by 1986.

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the club in 1993, the pitch was officially opened and new works included a car park, wall, inner fence and dugouts.
