A YOUNG man from Shannon is in a critical condition following a collision in the town on Saturday night.

An Garda Síochána have launched an appeal for witnesses following the single-vehicle collision which occurred shortly after 23:30 on Saturday night at Bothar na Luachra in Shannon.

From Inis Eagla in Shannon, the male aged in his early twenties was driving an electric scrambler and is understood to have collided with a parked vehicle when trying to avoid another vehicle.

He was taken from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) with serious injuries and his condition has been described as critical.

Gardaí said they and emergency services “responded to a collision involving an electric scrambler on Bóthar Na Luachra, Shannon”. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have examined the scene.

Witnesses have been asked to come forward with any information. “Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Anyone with information is asked to contact Shannon Garda Station on 061 365 900, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station”.
