Plenty to Honk about for Miltown Malbay trained Paradise

MILTOWN MALBAY trained Paradise Honk scored for the Shannon based Honk Army syndicate.

The A1 graded seventh contest was the feature event on Friday nights card at Galway which also featured the first round head of the Greyhounds Make Great Pets A3 525 Yards Stake.

In the A2 graded second contest all six runners came away line abreast but in the run towards the opening bend it was the trap five runner Paradise Honk that was first to break rank. Racing towards the turn he led by a length from Breaghmore Tilly who switched to the leaders inner as they negotiated the bend. Turning down the back, Paradise Honk trained in Miltown Malbay by Sean Meade led by half a length from Breaghmore Tilly with Hanover Gorm two lengths adrift of the pair as they passed halfway. Nearing the third bend Paradise Honk opened up a two-length advantage on his rivals and kicking again off the home bend. The Honk-Army Syndicate of Shannon owned son of McInerney and Paradise Brook eased home three lengths clear of Breaghmore Tilly with Hanover Gorm a half-length adrift in third place in 29.05.

There was plenty to savour on Saturday’s nights card at the same venue, with three heats of the Barking Buzz App A5/A6 525 also taking centre stage. The stake, worth a total prize fund of €3,125 attracted an interesting group of runners, with four qualifiers from each heat and it was the less-exposed greyhounds who came to the fore.

In the opening heat, there was a popular winner with TJ Forde’s Killaspic Lotto (Ballymac Cashout and Kiss An Angel) finally shed her maiden tag. Having narrowly missed out on August 15th, she made no mistake this time, taking control as the field entered the third bend. Once in front, Killaspic Lotto quickly put daylight between herself and her rivals and stayed on strongly to record victory in 29.52.20s. Seekers Dream showed early pace but lost valuable ground by taking a middle course through the race. Balistic John finished two and a half lengths behind in second, staying on well after encountering crowding at the second bend. Jezebel Eyes completed the podium places in third.

Heat two went the way of On The Wire (Good Cody & Tromora Palm), who secured his second victory from six starts for Gort based owner Gerry O’Donoghue. On The Wire was always in the hunt before taking command at the third bend. He then displayed plenty of strength in the home straight to cross the line in 29.68.20. Lakeside Teagan led early but became involved in crowding at the third bend, while Springwell Eddy remained prominent throughout and finished just one and a half lengths behind the winner. Hollywell Jive took third.

The fastest of the three heats went to Pierview Big Rob (Slippery Robert & Ballyhale Chloe) for Ros A Mhíl’s Máirtín Seoighe. The giant blue wasted little time asserting his authority, showing decent early pace to put the contest beyond doubt. Once clear, Pierview Big Rob was simply in a different league to his rivals and powered home in 29.42 (.20s). Johnsons Lady, who railed well on the run-up, stayed on strongly to claim second, with Heathlawn Cash finishing third.
