OVER 200 cyclists saddled up in Shannon for the ‘Odd Socks Cycle’ in aid of the Clare branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.

Shannon Cycling Club were responsible for organising the event on Sunday (April 24th) with Shannon Leisure Centre serving as the starting point.

Aoibhin Garrihy had the task of picking the spot prize winners for the best odd socks while the Ennis based co-founder of Beo Wellness was kept busy conversing with the many members of Down Syndrome Clare who came to support the event.

202 cyclists rolled out on Sunday and the choice between the 50km route from Shannon to Quin onto Fenloe and back by Newmarket-on-Fergus while the 100km trek carried onto Broadford and back.

Members of the organising committee including Louise Craig, John Ryan, Neil Gillespie, Pat O’Grady, Pat Ryan and the cycling club were very pleased with the success.

A monster raffle in conjunction with the Odd Socks cycle will be held on April 30th and tickets can be purchased for this online via Down Syndrome Clare Facebook page.

Funds raised will help to pay for essential therapies for the 85 Down Syndrome Clare members here in Clare like speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, swimming, and thereauptic horse riding.
