ONE of Kilkee’s most recognisable buildings for almost two centuries, the former church could be yours with DNG.

The unique four bedroom two bathroom property was originally constructed in 1845 and designed in a Gothic Revival style, characterised by its striking pointed-arched windows and dressed stone detailing.

Douglas Hurley, director at DNG O’Sullivan Hurley spoke to The Clare Echo about the extensive renovations recently undertaken at this one of a kind home. “The current owner bought it in 2017. He is a builder that specialises in restoration and doing up old buildings. He removed all the old floors and put in hardcore insulation and underfloor heating, new concrete floors throughout the building, new plumbing and new wiring”, Hurley explained.

“He recycled old materials such as the old seats that were used for some of the wall panelling. He tried to do it as sympathetically as possible to the work that was already there”, he continued.

As a result, the property’s impressive interior retains a wide variety of period features, including vaulted ceilings, original timber flooring, the original pulpit staircase, arched doorways and the original crafted timberwork, helping to effortlessly blend historical charm with modern living.

The property has unsurprisingly attracted a lot of attention due to its uniqueness and ideal location, just a short stroll from Kilkee’s renowned horseshoe beach and vibrant seafront, while enjoying immediate access to the many amenities this popular coastal town has to offer.

“There’s been a lot of media interest. I suppose it’s quite unique and it’s quite quirky. It could be a home buyer or for people to use it as an Airbnb. It will be well able to accommodate large groups so there’s potential for very good income to come off it. It could be an investor looking for an Airbnb or a holiday home”, Hurley highlighted.

The property is for sale by online auction on Friday 04th September 2026 at 2pm (unless previously sold).
