CLARE is set to come under a Status Yellow rain and wind warning from 7pm on Thursday, October 22, as Storm Austen brings heavy rain and strengthening winds across Munster and Leinster.
Met Éireann has warned of difficult travelling conditions and possible localised flooding, with the warning remaining in place until 10am on Friday, October 23.
The national forecaster said heavy rain associated with Storm Austen would spread eastwards across the country, while strong easterly winds would turn northwesterly and strengthen, particularly in the south and southeast.
Possible impacts include localised flooding, disruption to outdoor events, debris and loose objects being displaced, and some fallen trees and branches.
A separate Status Orange rain warning has been issued for Cork, Kerry and Waterford from 10pm on Thursday until 5am on Friday, with flooding expected, very difficult travelling conditions and possible disruption and delays to public transport.
A small craft warning also applies to all Irish coasts, with east to northeasterly winds expected to turn northwesterly and reach force 6 or higher at times. It is valid from 3pm on Thursday until 11pm on Saturday, October 24.
Met Éireann is advising people to remain aware of changing conditions and the potential for disruption as the system moves across the country.
