IMPROVEMENTS to the aesthetic look of one of the county’s biggest graveyards is to be completed.

A request to repaint road markings outside the parking spaces of Drumcliffe Cemetery was tabled before a sitting of the Ennis Municipal District by Cllr Mark Nestor (FF).

Acting senior executive engineer, Barry Conway in response confirmed that the markings would be assessed and “included in this year’s schedule of works if necessary”.

While appreciative of the response, Cllr Nestor remained adamant that the work must proceed, “they need to be touched up with a bit of paint”. The need for works was endorsed by Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF), “I’ve been to the graveyard too much already this year, it could be better managed with more lining”.

Cllr Mary Howard (FG) agreed with her colleagues, “I am a regular visitor up there, it does need a little bit of TLC”.

Improvements in Drumcliffe were welcomed by Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG), he flagged that older people with mobility issues are experiencing difficulties from the older section to the new section of the graveyard. “There is a steep incline and they are wondering if a hand rail could be added”.

Praise for the work undertaken to date was voiced by Cllr Nestor who agreed with Cllr Flynn that access from the old to new section could improve.
