THERE WERE CELEBRATIONS aplenty Gaeilscoil Donncha Rua as it moved into its new school building.
Founded in 1984, Gaelscoil Donncha Rua currently has 76 pupils enrolled at the Shannon primary school.
On Thursday, a new chapter begins in the school with as it moved from prefabs into a new school building. This is the first time that the Gaelscoil has a permanent building, having been in prefabs for close to forty years. The new building has six mainstream classrooms and one for an early intervention preschool and one for the school’s ASD class. The school now has its own hall and a library area.
Proceeds from this year’s Gerdy McGettigan memorial football tournament have gone towards the fit out of a new sensory room.

Gerdy’s mother Eilish a fortnight ago presented the school with a cheque to the value of €1,400 as part of the proceeds from the tournament.
Principal Aisling Ní Áirtnéada expressed her gratitude for the donation which she confirmed had gone towards the fit out of the sensory room.
