FANORE is experiencing a turnaround in fortunes with “a great buzz” evident among the North Clare village.
An increase in trade and visitors has been recorded in Fanore according to locals, this follows a small growth in the food and hospitality options available.
Works are to be completed in advance of the tourism season on the installation of a lower level step at access to Fanore beach “to enable easier access to the popular beach”.
Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG) requested the installation of the step and said the commitment to carry out works coincided with a turn in the fortunes of the village. “Fanore was really struggling,” he recalled. “I commend the work done in upgrading the toilets over the last couple of years, the dune restoration, works outside the school, linking the beach back to the centre of Fanore where O’Donoghues is”.
He added, “it is great to see O’Donoghues open, Café Fanore is open and run by a local person, the same for the local shop, there’s a great buzz around Fanore”. Continued improvements have been welcomed locally by the likes of Tom Lyons who have also sought better access to the beach, he was described by Cllr Garrihy as “a gentleman”.
Garrihy’s motion was seconded by Cllr Joe Killeen (FF).
