OLD AND NEW was the theme of the St Patrick’s Day parade in Gort but as ever there was an abundance of colour for the occasion.

Windows were decorated along the route with participants bringing colour and humour to their costumes with some getting political messages across, most notably the Gort Biogas Concern Group.

Gort Inse Guaire and Gort Arts were among those to bring plenty of energy to proceedings.

From 11:30 there was Irish dancing performances with traditional music following at 12:00. Jenna Coughlan and friends took to the stage at 13:30 with the Gavin Dance Academy also making an impression. Following the parade, it was time for the Tommy Baker Puppet Show to take over.

Prior to the parade and taking inspiration from the theme, Gort GAA gathered some of their current youngest players together with some of the elder past players. Ranging from 91 to just turned five, 86 years of the club’s history came together. Josie Harte, John Cummins, Paddy Cooke, Brian Brennan (Club Chair), Joe Cahill, Coley Kerans, Paddy Joe Flaherty, Sean Devlin and Cyril Glynn joined with some of the club’s future stars.
