Extra funds will have to be sourced to warrant the inclusion of a “minor road” in O’Briensbridge on Clare County Council’s planned list of works for 2021.

A plea was lodged by Cllr Michael Begley (IND) at the January meeting of the Shannon Municipal District to include a section of the L-7038 in the 2021 roads programme for restoration and improvement works.

His request was seconded by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND).

Spanning through both the Shannon and Killaloe Municipal District, the section of road is 4.2km in length.

Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett in response outlined, “Should sufficient funding become available this road will be included in the Shannon Municipal District programme for 2021, if not I will speak with my counterpart in Killaloe MD with a view to inclusion in the 2022 programme for each district”.

Cllr Begley previously sought repairs of this road at a meeting of the Killaloe MD in March 2016. He admitted he was satisfied with the reply from the senior engineer. “It is a relatively minor road. The Shannon Municipal District carried out some extensive repairs on it in early 2020 and the end of 2019, it is a road we will try keep in mind perhaps for next year’s programme”.
