RESCUE 115 helicopter crews completed four evacuations in quick succession off the west coast of Clare and Aran Islands on Monday of this week.
The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter completed a Medevac operation on Monday evening, being tasked shortly before 6.00pm.
Rescue 115 proceeded to a vessel 125 nautical miles (231 kilometres) west of Loop Head, taking approximately an hour and fifteen minutes to reach the location. The casualty was then winched aboard the helicopter and flown to University Hospital Limerick for treatment with Rescue 115 landing at UHL shortly after 9.10pm, following the lengthy journey.
The crew received assistance and coordination from watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.
Rescue 115 crews also completed three medical evacuations from the Aran Islands on the same day as two patients were airlifted from Inis Mór in separate operations in the early hours of the morning and afternoon. An additional rescue was carried out on Inis Oírr with all three patients being airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
