DESIGN for a cycling route linking Ennis with Barefield, Ballyalla and Crusheen is to commence in the coming weeks.

Senior executive engineer with Clare County Council, John Gannon confirmed that design stage for the cycle routes from Ennis to Barefield, Ennis to Ballyalla and Ballyalla to Crusheen as approved under last year’s NTA Active Travel Programme will commence in the first quarter of 2022.

An update was sought by Cllr Ann Norton (IND) at the January meeting of the Ennis Municipal District. “The amount of people that are out cycling, we want to make sure people are safe on our roads whether they are driving, walking or cycling. The funding is there to encourage people to cycle, it is important we keep on top of things and are ready”.

Cllr Paul Murphy (FG) thanked the Mayor of the Ennis MD for highlighting the matter.
