MORE than 300 homes have commenced construction in County Clare in the first seven months of 2026, with 373 homes beginning construction since January, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Across the State, 18,974 new homes commenced construction between January and July.
This represents an increase of 152% on the same period last year, when 7,539 homes commenced, and is the second-highest total recorded since commencement figures began in 2014
A total of 3,028 new homes commenced in July alone, up 169% on the 1,125 homes commenced during July 2025.
The figures show the scale of construction activity nationally, while 373 new homes have begun construction in Clare since the start of the year.
Clare Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe welcomed the figures, saying the 373 homes commenced in the county would make a difference to people seeking homes locally.
“It is particularly encouraging to see 373 homes commence in Clare since the beginning of this year alone,” he said. “These homes will make a real difference to individuals and families looking to put down roots in our community.”
Fianna Fáil TD and Minister of State Timmy Dooley welcomed the figures, saying the Clare commencements would make a difference to people seeking homes in the county.
“These figures are a sign of momentum holding strong in the housing sector,” he said.
“The key to solving the housing crisis is increasing supply, and every home that begins construction today is another step closer to handing over keys to a family tomorrow.”
Mr Dooley said it was “particularly encouraging” to see 373 homes commence in Clare since the beginning of the year.
“These homes will make a real difference to individuals and families looking to put down roots in our community,” he said.
He said housing remained the Government’s top priority and that Fianna Fáil was committed to measures aimed at increasing supply, accelerating delivery and improving access to affordable and secure housing.
“There is still much more work to do, but these figures show that the actions being taken are having an impact,” he said.
