A WOMAN in her eighties has died after she was hit by a car on Sunday morning in Scariff.

Local diversions are now in place with the L8050 road at Knockaveen closed following the fatal road traffic collision on Sunday morning. Forensic Collision Investigators are carrying out a technical examination of the road.

At approximately 8:55am, a pedestrian aged in her eighties was fatally injured after she was hit by a car. No other injuries were reported.

Emergency services including paramedics from the National Ambulance Service, Gardaí and units of the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service in Scariff attended the scene. The woman’s body was removed the morgue at University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination is due to take place.

A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to provide support to the family of the deceased.

Gardaí in Scariff are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who were travelling in this area between 8:45am and 9:15am and may have camera footage (including dash-cam), are asked to make this available to Gardaí.
