WAVES and walks is a new community walking group which has been set up in Lahinch.

Established by Lahinch Leisure Centre, the community walking group travels an approximate two kilometres every Wednesday evening.

Lahinch Leisure Centre’s reception is the meeting point every Wednesday at 7pm before staff lead the group on their travels. The initiative is running for the month of February.

Duty manager at Lahinch Leisure Centre, Lenka Grmanova told The Clare Echo, “These are community-led walks that are open to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. The group has become a positive space for people in the area to come together, get some fresh air, and enjoy being active in a relaxed and supportive environment”.

She explained, “Neighbours meet, friendships form, and people who might not otherwise cross paths get a chance to chat and spend time together. It’s a great boost for both physical and mental wellbeing, especially during the winter months”.

Turnout thus far has been pleasing, Lenka said while expressing her hope that their numbers will continue to grow. “New walkers are always very welcome,” she stressed.
