A footpath extension with lighting in Sixmilebridge has been requested to make the area safer following recent housing developments.

Work commenced at the end of July on the Castlecrine Road in Sixmilebridge funded by numerous sources including the General Municipal Allocation from Cllr John Crowe (FG).

An appeal to extend the footpath with lighting was sought by Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) “as there is a couple of recent housing developments on this road and it is a safety issue”.

Speaking at a recent meeting of the Shannon Municipal District, he admitted he was unaware that Cllr Crowe had allocated money to the project.

“It is a very dangerous section of road on the Broadford section with two housing estates above it,” Cllr Crowe stated.

Queries on a co-funding arrangement were raised by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND), “I have asked before about pooling up resources to top up projects”. Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett detailed that the different sources included planning contributions and the GMA.
