SHANNON native Rachael English will be staying put on the airwaves amidst a major reshuffle on RTÉ Radio One.

In May 2024, Rachael was announced as the presenter of RTÉ Radio One’s News at One succeeding Bryan Dobson and putting her own stamp on the show.

Big changes are afoot at Radio One with Ray D’Arcy departing and Kieran Cuddihy to take over as Joe Duffy’s replacement fronting Liveline.

Listeners will be happy to hear Rachael continuing on lunchtime for ‘News at One’, reporting on the day’s top regional, national and international stories.

There could be further Clare voices on the national airwaves with Sixmilebridge’s Marie Crowe among those in contention to present a new daily sports show which is to air at 6pm, she is currently presenting Game On on 2FM.

Prior to News at One, Rachael was among the presenters of Ireland’s most listened to radio show, Morning Ireland from 2010. She joined RTÉ in 1991 as a 2FM news reader and later worked as a reporter for Morning Ireland; the News at One, Today With Pat Kenny and RTÉ Television News.

Her first full-time presenting job was on Five Seven Live on RTÉ Radio 1. She presented The Late Debate and Saturday View before joining Morning Ireland as a presenter. She has also worked on a number of special series. These include The Constituency, which focused on the issues and candidates in all of the Dail’s constituencies, and The Big Science Debate, where an expert panel discussed the ethical challenges presented by scientific developments.

In 2022, Rachael was inducted into the IMRO Hall of Fame, three decades on from beginning her journalistic career with Clare FM in 1989. On top of this, she is the author of seven novels.
