QUIN Community Progress Group will launch their first ‘Welcome to Quin Day’ on July 31st, encouraging people to get involved in the growing community and support the new group.
The organisation was formed “to future proof our parish and ensure that we’re community centred”, according to committee member Siobhán O’Sullivan, who spoke to The Clare Echo about the need for the group in the area.
The Quin Community Progress Group has been formed as a single umbrella organisation for the multitude of clubs and societies in the village. Quin is home to over 50 different clubs and organisations. Siobhán says that the new group has helped to make things run smoother in the village.
“We reached out to every single group. There’s 50 groups that meet in the community centre and there would be 17 high profile ones. We have 19 members now on our committee and every one of those groups is now represented on our central committee. Everything is fed back to them. It’s all transparent and everyone knows what everyone is doing in the parish. We never had that before. That was a very positive step forward”, the Quin woman explains.
As a committee member, Siobhán is looking forward to the Welcome to Quin Day on the 31st, funds for which will be raised at a table quiz on July 24th in The Monk’s Well. “Through the Community Progress Group, we have reached out to every single society. There will be a barbecue and music and all the stands for all the clubs will be on display”.
The Quin woman notes that the once quiet village has grown fast in recent years and recognises the role the community group can play in helping people to integrate “We have so many new housing estates in Quin, I think we have six more developments on the cards. We’re a fast growing population. It’s very hard to promote everything that’s there so this is our time to do it through the community group”, Siobhán outlines.
A wide variety of clubs are based in Quin, all of which will be represented on the 31st including “the rowing club, the sailing club, yoga, active retirement, snooker, Foróige, childcare, there’s a multitude, I’m only hitting off some of them. It’s a very active community”, Siobhán explains.
Quin Community Progress Group are looking forward to the event on the 31st and are encouraging people from across the area to come out, enjoy the festivities and support the organisation going forward.
Clubs and societies will be set up in The Quin Hall from 6pm-9pm on the 31st and the BBQ will take place at the same time. Admission is €10 per family for the BBQ.
