PLANS have been lodged for the change of use of a commercial building in Shannon to an Adult Day Services Hub operated by Enable Ireland Disability Services.

The application, submitted to Clare County Council by Peter Scully of Enable Ireland Disability Services Ltd, relates to a building on the Link Road in Smithstown.

The proposal involves changing the use of the existing commercial building, which was previously received planning permission, to provide an Adult Day Services Hub.

According to the planning application, the proposed facility would include six facility rooms, toilet facilities and a passenger lift, along with minor changes to the building’s elevations and internal modifications.

Permission is also being sought for an external garden activity space to the rear of the building, together with all associated site works.

The plans do not involve the construction of a new building, with the proposal instead involving the adaptation of the existing commercial premises for use as an adult day service.

Enable Ireland Disability Services is a registered charitable organisation providing services and supports to people with disabilities.

The application documentation states that the organisation has charitable status dating back to 1998, when it was known as Cerebral Palsy Ireland.

The company subsequently changed its name to the National Association for Cerebral Palsy (Ireland) Limited, before becoming Enable Holistic Services Ireland in 2000 and later Enable Ireland Disability Services.

The proposed hub would be located within the existing built-up area of Smithstown, with the application including plans for the internal layout, elevations, site layout and proposed garden area.

A number of documents have been submitted as part of the application, including a certificate of incorporation, landowner consent and architectural drawings.

A submission or observation in relation to the application can be made in writing to the planning authority for a prescribed fee of €20.

This must be done within five weeks of the authority first receiving the planning application.

The planning application was received by Clare County Council on July 14 and was validated on the same date.

Submissions or observations can be made to the planning authority until August 17, with a decision due on September 7.
