A FREE child car seat checking service will return to Ennis this week, with parents and guardians invited to have their children’s car seats checked by Road Safety Authority (RSA) experts.

The RSA’s Check it Fits service will visit Aldi on Francis Street, Ennis, on Monday, November 2, from 10am to 5.30pm.

The service will also visit Tesco in Newcastle West on Tuesday, November 3, and Aldi in Castletroy on Wednesday, November 4. Both visits will run from 10am to 5.30pm.

The free walk-in service takes between 10 and 15 minutes and does not require an appointment. Experts will check that child car seats are correctly fitted, demonstrate any adjustments needed and answer questions from parents and guardians.

The RSA said 53% of child car seats checked by the service in 2026 were incorrectly fitted and required some form of adjustment. Some 23% of incorrectly fitted seats needed major adjustments.

Ron Richardson, lead checker with the service, said even seemingly minor fitting problems, such as a loose seatbelt or twisted belt, could affect the safety of a child restraint.

He encouraged parents, grandparents and guardians to use the service to ensure children are travelling safely.

The Check it Fits service has checked more than 70,000 seats since it began in 2013.

A virtual checking service is also available through the RSA for parents who cannot attend an in-person event.
