Kilmaley are the first side to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Clare Cup.

Clonlara and Crusheen are battling to join them in the last four. The third and fourth placed teams in Division 1A will meet the top two teams from Division 1B in the Clare Cup quarter-finals. Currently Crusheen sit in fourth spot with Feakle two points behind them in fourth position and Sixmilebridge on the same amount of points (8) in fifth.

As it stands, O’Callaghans Mills sit on top of Division 1B with Donach O’Donnell’s charges one point ahead of Newmarket-on-Fergus who have a game in hand and face Clarecastle on Wednesday evening in what is expected to be a tight affair.

On the relegation front, Cratloe are nestled to the bottom of Division 1A on four points, Inagh/Kilnamona also have four points with Clooney/Quin ahead of them on five points. Clooney/Quin need to beat Sixmilebridge in the final round to seal their status while Cratloe and Inagh/Kilnamona play each other.

Broadford ease relegation concerns

Broadford followed their impressive victory over Sixmilebridge a week earlier with a four point win over Cratloe at Glenomra Park on Thursday evening.

The home side got off to a dream start with a goal from Diarmuid Moloney in the first minute and this helped them to lead at the break on a score of 1-7 to 0-7.

Cratloe fought back after the break but the closest they got was two points despite goals from Michael Hawes and Cathal McInerney’s whose goal came when the game was in injury time.

Sixmilebridge edge ahead in second half

In a well contested game at Ballyea, visitors Sixmilebridge came out on top in a high scoring tie.

The result sees the Bridge move a point ahead of Ballyea with both assured of their places in this division for next season as they are set to seal mid table places at the end of the campaign.

The sides went to the break on level terms in a tie where the players had to contend with a strong wind. Brian Corry was the winner’s goalscorer while Ballyea’s goal came from Cathal Doohan on a day when Martin O’Leary top scored for them with 0-12 to his credit.

Kilmaley sealed their place in the semi-final of the Clare Cup with this comfortable victory over Crusheen at the latter’s venue on Saturday.

Helped by a 0-5 haul from wing Eanna McMahon, the unbeaten Division 1A leaders pulled away in the second half on their way to a win by double scores against a side that remains in the hunt for a place in the play offs and they currently fill third spot heading into the final round of games. In Saturday’s game Luke Hayes was the game’s goalscorer.

Behind by four points, 0-8 to 0-12 at half time, the home side dominated the second half outscoring the visitors 2-11 to 0-6.

Clonlara moved back into second place on the league table and in line for a semi-final place in the race for the Clare cup with this win over Feakle on Saturday.

Kieran Galvin scored the game’s only goal on a day when the winner’s tally was shared by six players with Cathal O’Connell again finishing at the team’s top scorer with 0-9 to his credit.

Another impressive win for Whitegate

Whitegate continued their good form when they proved too strong for Eire Og at the East Clare club’s venue on Thursday evening.

The home side took control from the start and at the end of the first quarter they had opened an eight point lead with the score at 1-8 to 0-3.

When the half time whistle sounded the winners were 3-14 to 0-8 in front and well on the way to the points.

The lead had stretched to nineteen points at the three quarter stage when the score was 4-18 to 0-11.

With victory secure, Whitegate made five changes and Éire Óg managed to get in for a brace of goals but the home side held on for a merited victory on a day when their goal scorers were Paddy Burke(2) Ronan Hayes and Paul Burke, the full forward trio who amassed a total of 4-6 between them.

Éire Óg substitute Sean Mullooly put his hand up for a starting place in upcoming games by scoring 2-2 after he was introduced in this tie. The Ennis side managed by Matt Shannon have one win from eight games but will see their cause greatly strengthened when their full contingent of county players become available.

Mills move closer to play off spot

O’Callaghans Mills kept up their strong challenge for a place in the play offs and for promotion to Division 1A when they proved too strong for Smith O’Briens at Killaloe on Thursday evening.

At the end of a hard fought opening half the winners held a six point advantage with the score at 1-12 to 0-9, the goal coming from Sean Cotter.

The visitors continued to hold the upperhand in the second half when their second goal came from the experienced Bryan Donnellan.
