SHANNON town “needs a makeover” so far as its landscaping is concerned with “impactful” designs to be finalised.

Work is needed on the ground of the Airport Town and improvements won’t be visible for two years, Cllr Tony Mulcahy (FG) has said.

Senior officials in the Shannon Municipal District are “working proactively with a professional landscape artist, Shannon Tidy Towns and industry partners to establish impactful landscaping in Shannon”.

At the latest sitting of the Shannon MD, Cllr Mulcahy sought details on what parts of the town would be landscaped in the coming weeks.

Suzie Clifford, senior executive officer with the Shannon MD confirmed they are in discussions. “The Shannon MD will commence work on the main junction on Bóthar Mór and then commence work on Drumgeely Road,” she outlined.

Cllr Mulcahy stated, “The town needs a makeover, it will take a long period of time to deliver on this, it is like the flowers and meadows which take time to grow, another year or two we’ll see it”.

Also voicing his support, Cllr Pat O’Gorman (FF) commented, “I went to visit the Tidy Towns recently with their tunnel and flowers, it will bring an awful lot of colour to the town when they are rolled out”.
