As the 60th celebrations continue at Shannon golf club, president Joe Walsh’s prize dominated proceedings last weekend when full timesheets were the order of the day.

In the ladies section Dympna Hogan (27) with 66 nett was the winner. She was five ahead of Honor Kinahan (27) with Debbie Reddan (12) in third place a further four strokes a further back on 75 followed by Margaret Hope (16), also with 75.

Madge Young (11) won the gross with 83 while Mary Flynn (25) won the past president’s category with 75.

Glynnis Scott with 22 points won the 9 hole competition while winners in the 2’s competition were Sandra Ferguson, Jane Kennedy and Jean Murphy (all at the 4th hole) and Noleen Neylon (10th hole).

Shane Flynn (6) was the men’s winner with 68 and he won on a countback from Keith Hyland (10) with third spot filled by Michael Cummins (11) who also had 68.

Neil O’Brien (6) was fourth with 69 followed by Fintan Ward (12) with 69 and Eoghan Casey (10), also with 69.

Damian Casey (+1) won the gross with 70.

John Hynes (8) won category A with 70 from Kevin McCarthy (5), also with 70.
Paul Keary (9) was the category B winner with 70 from Jody O’Connor (9), also with 70 while Eddie Clohessy (21) won category C with 70 from Billy Austin (21) with 71.

Tony O’Callaghan (17) won the seniors category with 70 while the junior winner was Stephen Pearse (8) with 72.

Last week’s men’s open singles was won by Lenny Lith (17) with 40 points from Colm O’Meara (7) who also had 40 points. Maurice O’Connor (14) was third with 39 points followed by Christy Ryan (16), also with 39 points. Adam McInerney Hynes (2) won the gross with 37 points.

The men’s green tee challenge was won by Ray Ryan (18) with 40 points from Michael Deasy (12) with 38 points while Daniel Brennan (+7) won the gross with 40 points.

The men’s 9 hole competition was won by Harry Grew (7) with 19 points.

Kilrush Golf Club:

Lady President, Mary Young’s prize was played for at Kilrush on Saturday when Mary O’Neill (41) with 43 points emerged as the winner. She won by two from Martina Walsh (26) with third place filled by Ann Coen (22) with 40 points. They were followed by Kathleen Haugh (37) with 39 points with fifth spot filled by Anne Gallaghar (14) who also scored 39 points.

Fiona Kinsella (12) with 27 points won the gross while the nines were won by Helen Hurst (47) with 18 points and Mary Downes (30) with 22 points.

The category winners were Margaret Donnelly (19) with 37 points, Nicola O’Leary (26) with 38 points and Martina Fox (42) with 37 points.

Other winners were Jean Lorigan (38) with 36 points (Past President),
Mary O’Sullivan (30) with 34 points (Committee prize), Mary Nolan (Longest drive) and, Joan O’Malley (Nearst the pin).

The Junior girls 9-hole winner was Ciara O’Connell (25) with 24 points and she won on a countback from Hannah Murphy-Downes (27).

The ladies 9-hole winner was Marie Rogers (25) with 15 points from Freda Moran (21) with 10 points.

The president’s prize to the men was won by Alan J Hogan (27) with 47 points and he was one ahead of Ken O’Grady (16).

In third place with 42 points was Barry Coleman (15) followed by Bernard Coleman (12), also with 42 points. Michael Moloney (17) was fifth with 41 points followed by John Stapleton (24) with 41 points. The gross was won by Tom Browne with 35 points.

Carmel O’Flaherty (44) with 49 points won the SuperValu ladies open 18 hole singles at Kilrush last week.

Category 1 was won by Mary Bolton (18) with 38 points from Geraldine Burke (18) with 37 points.

Mary O’Sullivan (30) with 41 points won category 2 from Olivia McCarthy (27) with 38 points while category 3 was won by Anne Marie Golden (43) with 46 points from Mary Keating (37) with 35 points

Woodstock Golf Club:

John Dreelan (10) with 42 points won the Michael Cullinan memorial cup at Woodstock at the weekend when the gross was won by Sean Crowe (2) with 34 points.

Category 1 (+ to 10) was won by Ronan O’Looney (9) with 39 points from Kieran Cosgrove (9) with 37 points.

The winner of category 2 (11 to 18) was Jamie Ivors (13) with 42 points from Joe Davis (14) with 41 points while the category 3 (19+) winner was Vincent O’Grady (24) with 39 points.

The winner of the singles competition for those with handicaps of 16 and over was Cuan O’Glaisne (16) with 44 points while winners in the 2’s competition were Sean Crowe (6th,11th,14th), Ronan O’Looney (6th,14th), Frank Landy (8th), Carl Hale (14th), Cathal O’Neill, Ciaran Coote, David White and David Quinn (all at the 11th).

The ladies 18 hole V par competition at Woodstock was won by Anne Kilker with 3 up from Mags Nash with 2 up.

Tuesday’s 18 hole stableford competition was won by Kathleen McEnery with 41 points while this week’s competition was won by Teresa Sherlock with 37 points.

The AMR singles continues on this Thursday while the weekend competition will be a club singles. The monthly medal, an 18 hole stroke competition will be played for this week.

Lahinch Golf Club:

The social mixed foursomes, over nine holes, will be held on the Castle course, Lahinch on this Friday, August 21 from 5.30pm.

The countdown to the Walker Cup is on and preparations are continuing at pace at the club.

Both teams for the eagerly awaited event have been announced and, for the first time since 2013 the GB&I team includes both the reigning Amateur Champion, Stuart Grehan and the reigning US Amateur Champion, Jack Whaley in the same year.

East Clare Golf Club:

Catherine Murphy (35) won the ladies 18 hole stableford at East Clare on Sunday with 41 points. She had two to spare over Bridget Minogue (30) with Siobhan Mulcahy (35), also with 39 points, in third place. Siobhan Shanahan (16) won the gross with 20 points.

The ladies Wednesday competition was won by Mary Dinan, Mary Farrell and Terry Mulvihill. Second spot was filled by Breda McCarthy, Annette Rowan and Mary Stritch and they were followed by Mary Collins, Mary Jo Minogue and Connie McKenna.

Last week’s senior men’s competition was won by Danny Minogue, Seamus O’Dwyer and Michael Noonan with 91 points. In second place with 88 points were Martin McKeogh, Nick Ryan and John Nihill and they were followed by Jonathan Walsh, Mike Heffernan and Kevin Grimes who also had 88 points.
The winners of Friday’s mixed scramble were Ursula Hogan, Teresa Tonna and Brian Corry from Evelyn O’Brien, Tony McNulty and Chris Davis with third place filled by Eimear O’Halloran, Paul Howard and Pierce O’Shiel.

On this Sunday, August 23, East Clare will host the Regional final of the mixed fourball and mixed foursomes competitions. Teams from Shannon, Doneraile, Dromoland and Killarney will compete.

Ennis Golf Club:

The Gaiety cup, an 18 hole ladies foursomes competition, sponsored by the Temple Gate Hotel was played for at Ennis last week when Patricia O’Reilly and Maeve Hoey were winners with 47 points. They had three to spare over Geraldine O’Mahoney and Mary Gardiner with Anne Casey and Nuala Corry a further three points back in third place.

The ladies 9 hole singles competition was won by Mary Curley (22) with 23 points. In second place, with a similar score, was Ceilie Reilly (19). Winners of the divisions were Mary McMahon (11) with 16 points, Rose Sharkey (17) with 21 points and Marie Connolly (24) with 22 points.

Last week’s senior men’s competition was the Frank White Cider day when the winners were Vincent Corbett, Frank Sheedy, Tim Kelly and Dominick Murray with 80 points.

In second place with 73 points were Steve Burns, Ger Hanrahan, Ollie Kenneally and Declan Hanley followed by Tom Gallery, Eamonn Kelly, Frank Coffey and George Power, also with 73 points.

Fourth place was filled by Tim Scanlon, Brian Considine, Denis Smith and Paul Kenny with 73 points and they were followed by Tony McInerney, Brian Logue, Terry Hughes and Frank Cullinan with 72 points.

In sixth place, also with 72 points were Ollie O’Loughlin, Noel Pilkington, Neil Cremin and Jim Hennessy followed on 71 points by James Corcoran, Seamus Bowe, Peadar Cosgrove and Sean Fitzpatrick while eighth spot was filled by John C. McNamara, Matt Flynn, Jimmy Kearns and Joe O’Connor, also with 71 points.
Lady captain Mary T. McMahon’s prize day takes place on this Sunday when a full timesheet is expected.

Dromoland Castle & Golf Club:

Darragh O’Keeffe with a nett 61 won the 18 hole stroke competition at Dromoland last weekend. In second place was Brian McNamara with 66 followed by Phillip Alldritt with 69 and Tony O’Brien, also with 69. Ross Kenny won the gross with 72.

Last week’s 9 hole stableford competition winner was Alan Henstock with 19 points from Jake Higgins with 18 with third place filled by Chris O’Donovan with 18 points.

The ladies 18 hole stableford competition, sponsored by AIB was won by Dorothy Brennan with 38 points from Mairéad Toomey with a similar score with third spot filled by Siobhan Dyar with 37 points.

The ladies 9 hole stableford competition was won by Eimear Danagher with 25 points from Deirdre Cooney with 22 points.
