President Con Woods’ prize was played for at Dromoland Castle golf club at the weekend when the winner was Stephen Bergin with 63 and he had two to spare over Nicki Duggan with Cian Connellan a further shot back in third spot.

They were followed by Richard Woods with 60, Jason O’Leary with 60, Shane Mowat with 59, Patrick Marnane with 59, Brian Arthur with 58 and Philip Aldritt with 57. Killian Howard won the gross with 36.

Other prize winners included Conor McCarthy with 61 (student), Dylan O’Brien with 42(junior), Maurice Lynch with 22(front 9), Dave Browne with 25(back 9), Con Ryan with (40) past president), Liam Barry with 78(guest) and Tony Kelly with 40(handicap 18 and over).

Joan Ryan was the winner of the president’s prize to the ladies with 75 nett from Deirdre Cooney with a similar score. Corina Doyle with 76 was third followed by tina Devitt with 77. Mairead Toomen won the gross while the nines were won by Patricia Moroney and Mary Arthur. Anne Fahy was the 9 hole winner.

Last week’s 9 hole competition winner was Gary Ryan with 23 points from Ronan McCarthy with 23 and Conor Ryan with 21

In the Friday open singles, Lee Brack was the winner with 42 points from Gary Fitzgibbon with 41 and Tom O’Brien with 40 while the gross was won by Jason O’Leary.

The junior competition on July 13 was won by Harry McEnery off the white tees with 39 points and by Conor Clancy with 38 points off the black tees.

In a similar competition on July 15 Darragh Moylan with 43 points was the winner off the white tees while Conor Clancy again won off the black tees with 47 points. Eabha Brennan won the girls competition with 37 points

The ladies 9 hole competition on July 14 was won by Carol Wixted with 24 points.

Ennis Golf Club:

The senior ladies outing at Ennis last week was won by Carmel Verling, Nuala D’Auria and Anne Casey with 38 points from Mary Glynn, Frances O’Reilly and Joan Tassie with a similar score. In third spot, also with 38 points were Anne White, Aideen Considine and Marie Dilleen followed by Geraldine 0’Mahony, Margaret Flanagan and Alice D’Arcy and they also scored 38 points.

The NBCRI team of two competition was won by Eilis Neville (32) and Chaye Kelly (19) with 44 points from Aideen Considine (24) and Connie Corry (20) with 41 points with third spot filled by Helen (22) and Anne Gallery (16) with 40 points.

In the July medal the silver section was won by Kitty Morris (15) with 71 points from Della Burns (18) with 73 points.

In the bronze medal the winner was Bridget Hoey (22) was the winner with 77 from Monica Finnerty (23) with a similar score.

The ladies 9 hole competition was won by Mary McMahon (12) with 19 points from Geraldine O’Mahoney (13) with 18 points.

The winners of the Michael O’Reilly scramble on Sunday were Margaret Flanagan (31), Helen (22) and Ann Gallery (16) with 85 nett.

In second place, also with 85 nett, were Deirdre Molyneaux (17), Claire Ruane (19) and Ann White (30) while third spot went to Helen Harnett (24), Joan Cullinan Coote (31) ans Ethna Murphy (31) with 84.

The winner of the ladies improvers 9 hole stroke was Sinead O’Sullivan (26) with 42 nett.

The competition on day 5 of the Ennis open week programme of competitions was a 9 hole stableford outing which was won by Gerard Connellan (9) with 20 points from Pat Rutherford (9) with 18.

The day 6 competition was a fourball betterback was sponsored by The Clare Echo and the winners here were Ronan Herbert(4) and Liam Hughes(10) with 48 points from Leo Herbert (9) and Diarmuid Meere (14) with 45 points.. In third spot with 44 points were Pat Murphy (7) and Ronnie Guinnane (14). The 9 hole competition winner was Seamus Nugent (10) with 20 points.

Last Saturday’s singles competition, sponsored by Martin Ward Golf was won by Michael Irwin (27) with 41 points from Michael Cummins (16) with a similar score. Brian Mulhern (16) was third with 40 points while Nigel Frost (1) won the gross with 33 points.

The Michael O’Reilly Oil 3 man team modified scramble was won by Ross McLoughlin (19) Roy Duggan (14) and TJ Scanlan (7) with 95 points. They had one to spare over Gerry O’Connor (18) Sean Rynne (11) and James P. Horgan (18) with third spot filled by Bernard Hanrahan (22) Liam Barry (16) and Paschal Russell (17) with 90 points

Woodstock Golf Club:

Last week’s open singles at Woodstock was won by Bernardo Kelly (10) with 64 nett from Michael Conroy (10) with a similar score. Mark Sweeney (10) was third wth 65 followed by Joe Kelly (16) wth 65 with fifth spot filled by Darragh Casey (11) with 65. Brian Gilligan (+1) won the gross with 72.

The winners of the open fourball betterbll competition at Woodstock at the weekend were David White(14) and Denis Ryan(15) with 53 points from Brendan O’Reilly(17) and Frankie Slattery(22) with 51 points. In third place, also with 51 points, were Dickie Pyne(12) and Eugene Conroy (20) followed by Frank Landy (14) and Conor Browne (24) with 50 points.

The monthly medal will be played for this weekend while the weekly singles will be on Wednesday only next week.

Captain Liam O’Connor’s prize will be played for on Friday July 30, Saturday July 31 and Sunday August 1.

East Clare Golf Club:

The men’s blue challenge at East Clare was won by David McNamara (27) with 38 points from John Duffy (18) with a similar score while third spot was filled by Ben Kilkenny (10) with 37 points.

The competition off the yellow tees saw Brendan Magill (8) win division 1 with 40 points. Matthew McNamara (16) won division 2 with 37 points while the division 3 section was won by Shane Corry (19) with 42 points.

In the ladies 18 hole Eleanor Tivy qualifier, Noreen Doyle (23) won with 38 points from Rachel Whelan (24) with a similar score.

It was a great weekend for the ladies club with the Challenge Cup and Minor Teams qualifying for the Munster West area semi finals vs. Ballyneety next Sunday. The Challenge Cup team had a 4-1 win over Ennis and the Minor team had a 5-0 win over Dromoland.

Eoin Magill of East Clare Golf Club takes part in the South of Ireland championship in Lahinch this week.

Kilrush Golf Club:

The 18 hole men’s Clean Ireland singles at Kilrush at the weekend was won by Eric Neville (25) with 44 points from Michael Shannon Senior (26) with 42 points.

In the Young trophy Henry A. Cahill (26) with 64 was the winner from Sean Moran (22) with 65 with third spot filled by Joe Daly (14) with 67 followed by Noel Kilkenny (18) with 67. The category winners were Joe Linnane (11) with 67, Pat J. Shannon (14) with 68 and Eoin Fitzgerald (23) with 68.

In the ladies Fr. Malone prize the winner was Stephanie Roughan (30) with 41 points from Ann Marie Donnellan (17) with 37 points with third spot filled by Nicola O’Leary (29) with 36 points. The ladies 12 hole competition winner was Martina Fox

Gort Golf Club:

Kieran Hannon (22) was the winner of the lady captain’s prize to the men at Gort at the weekend with 44 points from Colman Cooney (7) with 42 points with third spot filled by Stephen Dervan (14) with 41 points. Gerard Niland (6) won the gross with 35 points.

In the ladies 18 hole singles, Bernie Browne (23) was the winner with 39 points from Patricia Skehill (28) with 38 points and Ellen Dolan (21) with 38 points. Siobhan Forde (12) won the gross with 23 points.

Lady captain Josie Cummins’ prize was played for on Sunday and the winner of the 18 hole stroke competition was Regina Malone (45) with 66 from Charlotte Kelly (29) with 67. They were followed by Mary Dervan (27) with 68, Roisin Walsh (21) with 68, Niamh Carr (45) with 68, Margaret Foy (43) with 70, Anne Connolly (25) with 70 and Petra O’Connor (22) with 70.

Siobhan O’Connor (11) won the gross with 86 while other prize winners were Sara Broderick (20) (past captain) with 70, Teresa Gill (17) (committee prize) with 70, Ann Nolan (25) (front 9) with 32.5 and Patricia Skehill (28) (back 9) with 33. In the 9 hole competition, Rose Finnegan (20) won with 19 points from Mary Cunningham (25) with 16 points.

Doonbeg Golf Club:

The captain’s (David Eastham) prize was played for at Doonbeg Links last week where Shane Igoe (24) emerged as the winner with 42 points from Declan Griffin (22) who had a similar score. Martin Griffin (22) was in third spot with 41 points followed by Padraig Hayes (25) with 40 points, Kieran Golden (13) with 40 points and Brian Shanahan (19) who also has 40 points.

In the weekend’s singles stableford competition the winner was Hugh McNally from Sean Moloney with Kieran Golden in third spot. The nines were won by Sean Moloney junior and Michael Horgan.
