Youth and experience stepped up to the plate to see Clooney/Quin return to the Clare senior camogie championship.

Heartbreak of losing to Feakle/Killanena in last year’s intermediate final was used as motivation with Clooney/Quin sealing their return to the top tier with a three point win over Whitegate on Saturday.

Player of the game, Orlaith Duggan hit 0-06, all of which came from play. The former Clare captain said it was players of all ages that saw them get over the line. “It’s just unbelievable to be back senior, it was touch and go there today and it was a savage battle. We feel like we are back where we belong. The quality in the intermediate Championship is of a serious standard, all games were close this year and that can only benefit Clare camogie.

“Susan Fahy got an unreal goal but we responded with older players like Deirdre Murphy and younger ones like Emma Considine. I’m just thrilled with today, we have massive spirit great pride in ourselves and we will celebrate tonight in style, we will be singing Spancil Hill and in Quin”.

Centre back, Ciara Grogan outlined that it was “unreal” to be crowned intermediate champions. “I am just so glad we got over the line, it was the exact same as last year in that it went right down to the wire. When Susan Fahy scored that wonder goal my heart sank a bit but we responded magnificently. Orlaith Duggan was sensational and has been since she was fourteen”.
