519 domestic abuse incidents have been reported in Co Clare, already this year.

Incidents include breaches of interim barring orders, protection orders, barring orders, safety orders, emergency barring orders and domestic disputes.

Clare falls into the Southern Region which up until September 9th had 5030 domestic abuse incidents this year compared with the Dublin Region (8941), Eastern Region (5612), North Western Region (5103) giving a nationwide total of 24,686 domestic abuse incidents so far in 2021.

Minister for Justice, Heather Humphreys (FG) in response to a parliamentary question from Clare TD, Michael McNamara (IND) insisted An Garda Síochána “attaches the highest priority to domestic abuse incidents” and cited the ongoing work of Operation Faoiseamh.

Increased supports must be provided in the upcoming Budget to organisations working with victims of domestic violence and vulnerable children, Deputy McNamara said. “While there are a number of organisations in Ireland working tirelessly to provide professional support to domestic abuse survivors, it is clear that wider supports are needed in light of the high incidences of domestic abuse across the country,” he told The Clare Echo
