Delayed for a week due to Covid issues in Shannon, the remaining tie in the first round of the intermediate football championship was played at the Banner grounds on Sunday.

Coolmeen 2-13
Wolfe Tones 0-03
Venue: Banner GAA Grounds, Ennis

While the Shannon side would have gone into the game as slight favourites, a Coolmeen victory would not have come as a surprise but few if any would have predicted the margin of their win.

Without detracting from Coolmeen’s merited win, it must be pointed out that the Shannon side were short five regulars for this tie. To add to their woes they were reduced to fourteen men for half of the game after Jayme O’Sullivan picked up a second yellow card.

Ahead at the interval, Coolmeen continued to hold the upperhand in the second half with the O’Connor brothers Cathal and Eoin ruling matters at midfield.

Coolmeen’s goalscorers on the day were Aidan Corry and substitute Ronan Murphy. Corry finished the game as the top scorer with 1-9 to his credit. Other scorers for the winners were Cathal O’Connor (0-3) and Daniel Forde

Joe McGauley, Chris Dunning and Conor Carigg were the point scorers for the Shannon club.

Coolmeen: Paudie Corry; Mark Meaney, Gary Meaney, David Hehir; Thomas Coffey Daniel Forde, Alan Normoyle; Eoin O’Connor, Cathal O’Connor; J. J. Carigg, Brian Markham, Liam Markham; Aidan Corry, Micheal Brooks, Joe Corry.

Subs: Ronan Murphy for Brooks; Aaron Kelly for Carigg; David Neenan for J. J. Corry; Jamie Brooks for L. Markham.

Wolfe Tones: Paul Tuohy; Shane Nihill, Aaron Brennan, Barry Murphy; Jason McGauley, Jayme O’Sullivan, Daithi Lohan; Joe McGauley, Ross O’Connor; Cody Waller, Conor Carigg, Daniel Riordan; Darragh Lohan, Dean Devanney, Chris Dunning.

Subs: Sean Brennan for Riordan; Aaron Rudd for Joe McGauley; Brian Monaghan for Devanney; Liam O’Dwyer for Dunning; Joe McGauley for Darragh Lohan.
