LISSYCASEY are treating Friday’s second round showdown with Kilmurry Ibrickane as “winner takes all”.
Both sides prevailed in their first round encounters in Group 3 of the TUS Clare SFC meaning the victor this weekend is guaranteed of a place in the knockout stages.
Automatic qualification to the Cusack Cup final was secured by Lissycasey when they defeated Kilmurry Ibrickane 4-21 3-6 in the last round of the league.
Speaking to The Clare Echo, Lissycasey manager David Considine said the league tie will count for nothing this weekend while praising the manner of Kilmurry Ibrickane’s first round showing over St Breckans. “They were very impressive, they are a quality team, we played them in the last group stage of the Cusack Cup in the seventh round, the scoreline was what it was but we said straight away after that game that we will be playing them in round two of the championship and they will have different players out on the field, they are a championship team”.
Heaping praise on the Bricks, Considine stated, “they have the pedigree, they have lads in the squad that have won multiple Jack Daly medals, we’re well aware that we will be very much up against it, we will be underdogs going in against Kilmurry Ibrickane, both teams have got two points on the board so it is a winner take all in the sense that the winners puts themselves in a very strong position and whoever loses is back to the status quo and will be joined by someone else on two points potentially, it will be all to play for going into round three if the result isn’t positive”.
