An East Clare councillor has said he is counting down the days until elected representatives don’t have to be looking for speed surveys.

At a recent sitting of the Killaloe Municipal District, Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) requested a speed survey and traffic calming on the Mountrice Road Truagh off the R471 “in the interest of safety”.

Senior executive engineer, Niamh Madden said an assessment of the location and speed survey would be carried out. “The outcome of these assessments will determine any future measures that may need to be undertaken and will form the basis of any funding applications that may need to be progressed in this regard,” the senior executive engineer stated.

“I can’t wait until the day that we have cars have speedometers fitted so the car won’t let them pass these speeds and we won’t have to be looking for surveys,” Cllr O’Callaghan commented.

He noted that it is not a through road “so it is the people on the road that are the ones speeding”. Cllr Tony O’Brien (FF) seconded the proposal.
