THE long-awaited Ennis Town Bus Service will commence operation on Sunday, October 18, with two routes set to operate across the town.
The start date has been confirmed by Clare Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe.
The new service will connect residential areas and workplaces across Ennis, with routes stretching from Clarecastle to Ballymaley and from the Tulla Road to Shanaway Road, with both routes intersecting through Ennis town centre.
The service will operate from early morning until late in the evening seven days a week.
Buses will operate on both routes every 30 minutes, providing a combined service of four buses an hour through the central section of the town.
Mr Crowe said the confirmation of a start date would be “very welcome news” for people in Ennis and surrounding areas.
He said the bus stops installed around Ennis in recent weeks would soon come into active use.
“I am delighted to confirm that the Ennis Town Bus Service will commence operation on Sunday 18th October,” he said.
“The new service will provide a much-needed public transport option for people travelling within Ennis, connecting residential areas and work places.”
Mr Crowe said the timetable is expected to be published in the coming weeks and would provide greater clarity for commuters.
He thanked Clare County Council, the National Transport Authority and local officials who had worked on the project over the past number of years.
“I look forward to seeing passengers using the service from the 18th October,” he said.
