Clare Gardaí have issued renewed security advice for bicycle owners in the county following two separate thefts.

A Black Raleigh Trek bike was stolen in the space of twenty minutes when it’s owner left it at Cullenagh Bridge on the Ennis Road out of Ennistymon between 8 p.m. and 8.20 p.m. on Saturday evening, 24th July.

This was a busy time on the road with people travelling to and from Lahinch and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen this theft taking place to contact Ennistymon Garda Station on 7072180.

At some time between June 24th and July 21st, a racer bike was stolen from the rear of a house on Cahercalla Road, Ennis.

Crime Prevention Officer, Tríona Brooks has outlined that bike owners should spend between ten and twenty percent of the value of a bike on two locks. “Owners of valuable bicycles should consider having an electronic tracking device covertly inserted within the frame,” she stated.

Locks should be kept off the ground and the bike should be locked tightly to an immovable object. Brooks said that bikes should also be locked when at home.

Property marking was also recommended by the Garda who said that taking a photograph and knowing the serial number of the bike was also important.
