Health and safety concerns surrounding the condition of trees in Shannon has prompted a review by the local authority.

Staff within the Shannon Municipal District office were to conduct “a review of tree issues” before the end of September to prepare for potential works that could be completed once the bird nesting season concluded. “This review will inform a works list which will be carried out within the budget available,” senior executive engineer Aidan O’Rourke outlined.

A “plan of action” to address “a number of issues concerning dangerous trees in Shannon” was sought by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND). He detailed that health and safety risks were being caused due to overgrowing trees over roads and public access areas.

His motion was supported by Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF). “We have had loads of complaints about trees covering walkways and coming into gardens,” she recalled.
