Five Clare women will be involved with Treaty Utd as the club begins its first season involved in the Women’s National League.

Ennis native, Irene Hehir will manage the club’s U17 side which includes Emma Nolan from Shannon and Newmarket-on-Fergus defender Ellen Casey.

Ellen is also included in the Limerick club’s senior squad alongside Lauren Keane, the Ennis woman is Vice Captain of the Dave Rooney managed side which also contains Rosie Young of Sixmilebridge.

Adding to the Clare connections, the club is sponsored by Shannon company, Ei Electronics.

In February, Treaty Utd’s application to enter the Women’s National League was accepted to make up a nine team top tier. The club was renamed from Limerick Utd following a threat from of legal action from Limerick FC.

Treaty United will replace Limerick WFC, the women’s section of Limerick FC, who made their National League debut in 2018. The new grouping was formed after court protection for the debt-ridden Limerick FC was removed.

Limerick FC did not receive a licence to compete in the SSE Airtricity League First Division after spending 100 days in examinership last year meaning an 83 year history of men’s LOI football in Limerick has ended.
