YELLOW box junctions have been sought at both entrances to a Sixmilebridge housing estate amid concerns that cars are blocking access for residents and emergency services.
Cllr John Crowe (FG) raised the issue at the September meeting of the Shannon Municipal District, requesting yellow box junctions at the two entrances to Church View housing estate.
He said parking at the entrances was a “major issue”, particularly during Mass times and events such as weddings at the nearby Catholic church.
Cllr Crowe said vehicles can block residents from entering and leaving the estate, while also raising concerns about access for emergency services.
“God forbid there is an emergency during Mass time, the emergency services would not be able to get through,” he said.
He requested yellow box markings at both entrances, along with refreshed road markings in the surrounding area.
He highlighted that Church View was the oldest estate in Sixmilebridge.
In a written response, Caimin Dillon, A/Senior Executive Engineer with Shannon Municipal District, said the request would be considered as part of the council’s 2027 work programme.
“Shannon Municipal District will include this request for consideration in our 2027 work programme under the Safety Improvement Works programme,” he said.
“Shannon Municipal District will refresh the existing road markings at these locations,” Mr Dillon added.
Cllr Crowe thanked Mr Dillon for the response.
