One additional death and 11 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the Republic of Ireland while Co Clare is now 19 days without an increase in personnel diagnosed.

On Tuesday evening, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre confirmed the death toll from COVID-19 had increased by one to 1,736.

HPSC officials have also been notified of a further 11 cases bringing to 25,473 the total amount of individuals diagnosed.

As of last night, 429,698 tests have been carried out. Over the past week, 24,607 tests were carried out with a positivity rate of 0.5% as 116 tests were positive.

Co Clare has recorded its nineteenth day in succession without a new case of COVID-19, with the total figure remaining at 369. It is on a day six months on from when the World Health Organisation (WHO) received their first report of the virus, 10 million cases and 500,000 deaths across the world have since followed.

Dr. Ronan Glynn, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health stated, “Each person should risk assess their own environment to inform their personal decisions and actions during this pandemic. We know how this virus spreads, we know the public health behaviours required to protect ourselves and others, we must continue to be aware of the disease and limit its spread.”
