MORE than 60 organisations and support services will come together in Ennis for Clare’s annual Health and Wellbeing Age Expo on Thursday.
The event, organised by Clare Older People’s Council with support from the Clare Age Friendly Programme and Clare County Council, will take place at Treacy’s West County Hotel on Thursday, October 1.
The free event will run from 10am to 2pm and forms part of Clare Age Friendly Week, which celebrates National Positive Ageing Week.
Organisations attending will include the HSE Mid-West Community Healthcare Team, Mental Health Ireland, Clarecare, ALONE, Clare Libraries and TFI Local Link Limerick Clare.
The Expo will provide information on healthcare, physical activity, community supports, future planning, fraud awareness and social engagement opportunities.
A programme of free talks will also take place throughout the day, covering topics including road safety, nutrition, physical health, Meals on Wheels, pensions, savings and investments.
Complimentary health checks will be available on site.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet service providers and find out about supports available to help older people maintain their health, independence and connection with their communities.
Admission to the Expo and all presentations is free.
Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) said the event would provide an opportunity for older people and their families to find out about services and supports available across the county.
Chairperson of Clare Older People’s Council Larry Hally said the event also highlighted the importance of planning for healthy ageing.
“While the event focuses on supports for older people, planning for healthy ageing is something that benefits everyone,” he said.
Clare Age Friendly Programme Manager Shanelle Waring said: “The Age Expo is an excellent opportunity for older people, their families and carers to discover the wide range of supports, services and initiatives available throughout County Clare.
From expert advice and health information to community programmes and practical supports, the event showcases the many resources that help people remain active, independent and connected. We look forward to welcoming visitors to what promises to be an informative and enjoyable day for all.”
