Clare elected representatives have requested directional signage for parts of the county be updated at Lough Cutra by Galway County Council.

Outdated signage pointing tourists in the direction of Killanena and East Clare at Lough Cutra has been flagged with Galway County Council. At a recent meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District, Cllr Pat Hayes (FF) requested new directional signage be installed due to the vandalised state of the current equivalents.

Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett confirmed that they had notified the local authority in Galway of the matter.

“It is often quite hard to ask for other local authorities to do signage in their area. The signage by Lough Cutra has been vandalised and is not up to standard,” Cllr Hayes acknowledged. He felt “it is not fair on the people living on these roads. If the signage isn’t correct, we need to update it”.

Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe MD, Cllr Pat Burke (FG) seconded the motion. “It is in their area but it is for our benefit”. Cllr Hayes added, “They are duty-bound to put up general standard signage on a regional road” while Mellett noted, “Regardless of the location, we have an obligation to highlight it”.
