A BRAND new camera club has developed in County Clare and they are currently welcoming new members.

The Clare Camera Club is a club for photography and camera lovers.

Focusing purely on the art of photography, organisers say they have been established to help members learn about all things photography and camera-related in a friendly, relaxed, non-judgemental environment.

The Clare Camera Club also has a working association with The Clare Echo and offer opportunities for amateur and professional snappers to share their work with thousands of readers in print and online.

Clare Echo photographer Julie Tillett, who is PRO of the Clare Camera Club, says, “At club meetings, there are presentations and explanations on how to use various settings to achieve different styles of photography.

It’s a brilliant opportunity to practice photography in a studio environment using studio lighting.

“It can be intimidating or daunting if you pick up an SLR and switch it to manual. Night photography for instance, the settings will be completely different to a portrait or if you’re at the races and we want to teach people how to deal with that.

“We’re affiliated with Irish Photography Federation and as a camera club we would be encouraging all members to get their LIPF (Licentiate), to say you’ve reached a standard that’s been approved by the IPF. It’s like the leaving cert of photography,” Julie laughs.

Members also learn about post processing editing of images and “step by step how to” on PhotoShop and Lightroom.

Club outings to different spots around the country take place regularly so members can practice their photography skills in different environments such as the Burren, the Cliffs, street photography and night photography.

Meetings take place every fortnight on a Tuesday evening from 8pm at John Mangan’s Photo studio on the Quin Rd in Ennis.

Who can join?

Anyone over the age of 18 who has an interest in photography! From total beginners to advanced professionals, all will be welcomed.
