SHANNON Golf Club’s course development classic attracted a huge entry last weekend. The winners, with 137 points, were Brian Begley, Brendan Markham, Herbie Burke and Mike Ryan and they won on a countback from Aidan and Ray O Halloran, Frank Kavanagh and Christy Earls.
In third place with 132 points were Andrew and John Pearse, Seamus McDermot and Fintan Crowe.
They were followed by Michael Bourke, Jamie Cuddihy, John Keyes and Riaghan Dunne with 131 points, Brian Lonergan, Colm Hanley, Liam Heffernan and Liam Hogan, also with 131 points with sixth spot filled by Anna Keely, Gerry Butler, Valerie O Shea and Sylvia O Brien who also had 131 points.
The best mixed team prize was won by John Burns, Billy Dunne, Damien Regan and Aine Twomey with 121 points.
The best score on day one was provided by Eamon Kirwan, Bryan Power, Fergie Coughlan and John Doyle with 130 points while the best team on day two comprised John and Michael Riordan, John McPhillips and Ian Fitzgerald with 66.
Brian Sherlock won the prize for nearest the pin at the 4th hole with Ian Fox winning nearest the pin at the 17th.
Shane O’Sullivan had the longest drive amongst the men with Joan Hoctor winning the award for the ladies.
In the intermediate scratch cup on Sunday, Darren Griffin (10) captured the honours winning on a countback from Colin Ryan (8) with Kevin Meehan (11), also with 81, in third place Jeff Carew (12) won the nett with 71.
The minor scratch cup was won by Ray Ryan (20) with 87 from Paul Barry (15) with 89 while the nett was won by Derek Malone (23) with 76.
Peter Waldron ((15) won the men’s green tee challenge with 38 points from Dave Egan (10) with 37 with the gross prize going to Jamie O’Shea (1) with 34 points.
Michael Long (21) won the men’s open singles with 39 points from Paul McElligott (15) who had a similar score. In third place with 38 points was Christopher Price (11). Edward Hickey (+1) won the gross with 36 points.
Brendan Foley (9) won the men’s 9 hole singles with 22 points.
East Clare Golf Club:
East Clare hosted its annual open week of competitions last week when good attendances were the order of the day.
The ladies Ryder Cup team of 2 was won by Mary Farrell and Maureen Clune with 56 points. They were one ahead of Eileen Donnellan and Rachel Whelan. In third place with 53 points were Evelyn Skehan and Marie Donnellan followed by Margaret Lynch and Mary Farrell also with 53 points.
Deirdre Tuohy (33) with 39 points won the ladies singles from Rachel Kelleher Doneraile (6) with 36 points with third place filled by
Sandra Ferguson Shannon (20) with 35 points.
The ladies Texas scramble was won by Rachel Whelan, Eileen Donnellan and Maureen Clune with second place filled by Eileen Donnellan, Siobhan Shanahan and Evelyn Skehan.
Marie Donnellan, Joe O’Donoghue and Jimmy O’ Connell won the mixed scramble.
The men’s Ryder Cup team of 2 was won by Ger Teefy and Andrew Moloney from John Carey and Declan Kinahan with third place filled by Brian Stritch and Seamus Cawley.
The men’s singles off yellow tees was won by Conal O’ Reilly (7) with 46 points from Brian Stritch (12) with 44 with third place filled by Liam Flynn (25) with 42. Mark McInerney (8) with 80 won the gross.
The men’s singles off the white tees was won by Stephen Moloney (1) from Bryan Tobin (11) with third place filled by Corey Downes (26).
Tony Cleary (0) won the gross with 71.
Danny Minogue, Nick Ryan and Jackie McHugh with 104 points won the men’s 3 ball champagne scramble from Tim Walsh, Brendan Moloney and Sean Jones with 102 points.
The men’s Texas scramble was won by Kieran Fox, Flannan McMahon, Colm Kelly and Ger Crotty.
The ladies 18 hole stableford competition on Sunday was won by Bridget Minogue (31) with 41 points from Catherine Minogue (20) with 38 points with Helen Ahern (30) in third with 37 points. Eileen Donnellan (17) won the gross with 19 points.
Friday’s mixed scramble was won by Martin Breen, Orlaith Ringrose and John Torpey from Jonathan Walsh, Deirdre Muldoon and Brian Corry with third spot filled by Pat Duggan, Teresa Bradley and Brid Hayes.
Last week’s senior men’s competition was won by Brian Torpey, Ger Hoey and Pierce O’ Shiel from Willie Roche, Pat Duggan, and Pat Corry with Jerry O’Brien, Jim Lynch and Pat McNamara in third place.
The Olive Fahy Memorial cup open for ladies and men will take place next Wednesday August 19 and tee times for the 18 hole stableford event can be booked by calling 061-921322.

There will be a presentation of prizes at Lahinch on this Thursday night at 9p.m. in the clubhouse.

Last week’s AMR open singles at Woodstock was won by Brian Mulcahy (17) with 41 points and he has qualified for the grand final.. The gross was won by Tony Nugent (0) with 36 points.
Category 1 was won by Barry Scanlan (8) with 40 points from Hugh McGrath (8) with 37 points.
Category 2 honours went to Jim Carmody (11) Lahinch with 41 points while category 3 was won by Cian O’Dwyer Snr (20) with 41 points
In the 2’s competition John Dreelan won (6th hole).
Friday’s mixed scramble was won by John Clune, Mary Holland and Michael O’Brien with 24.7 from Paddy Meehan, Shauna Kilker and Robert Keogh with 24.8. In third place with 27.8 were Neilus Butler, Anne Kilker and Nick Germaine.
The Brian Pyne sponsored August medal was the competition for men at the weekend when Cathal Nagle (11) captured the honours with 66 while Alan Markham (4) won the gross with 72.
Category 1 (+ to 10) was won by Matty Nugent (9) with 67 from Cathal O’Neill (10) with 70.
Ross Kenny (11) with 69 won category 2 while the category 3 winner was Paul O’Shea (25) with 70.
Mark Moloney (30) won the club singles for those with handicaps of 16 and over with 47 points.
Winners in the 2’s competition were Jason Considine (4th), Sean Crowe (8th), Brian Mulcahy (4th), Cathal O’Neill (11th) and Ronan O’Looney (4th & 8th).
The ladies V Par competition was won by Anne Kilker (36 with +3 and she won by one from Mags Nash (29).
The open singles continues on this Thursday while the weekend competition will be the Michael Cullinan memorial cup.
Mary McNamara & Hannah O’Brien who won the Munster West Australian Spoons Regional Qualfiers in Ennis on Tuesday with a great score of 43 points. They now play in the All Ireland finals on August 24 in Longford golf club.
Dromoland Golf Club:
The Nolan fourball for ladies, sponsored by Mark and Maria Nolan was the competition at Dromoland last week when the winners were Mairéad Bergin and Fran Feighery with 46 points. They had two to spare over Ann Nix and Colette Colleran with Anne McMahon and Siobhan Dyar in third place with 43 points.
Cathy Casey with 21 points won the 9 hole weekly competition from Mary O’Donnell with 19 points.
The senior men’s competition was won by John McDermott and Ian Kerr from Frank Travers and Con Ryan with third place filled by Philip Hehir and Jimmy Neville.
The men’s competition was v par and was won by Noel Hoban with 4 up. He had one to spare over Tony O’Brien with John Casey, also on 3 up, in third place. Ross Kenny with 3 up won the gross while the category for members with 20+ handicaps was won by Paddy Ryan with 1 down.
The men’s 9 hole competition was won by Garrett Quinn with 21 points, two more than Fintan Lahiffe with Ciaran Gallagher, also with 19 points, in third place.
Spanish Point Golf Club:
President Kathleen Haugh’s prize to the ladies was played for at Spanish Point last week when Fiona O’Boyle emerged as the winner with 35 points. She won on a countback from Elaine Rouine. Carl Akroyd was third followed by Mairead Bracken and they both also had 35 points. In fifth place with 34 points was Claire Bracken. Val Shannon won the gross.
Ennis Golf Club:
Winners of the senior Ladies 14-hole scramble at Ennis last week were Claire Pyne, Anne McMahobn and Marie Connolly.
The 9 hole scramble was won by Ann Daly, Marie Dileen, Jean Moloney and Alice Darcy.
The winners of the ladies open day 18 hole fourball betterball competition, sponsored by Hollys Vital Pharmacy were Phil Butler and Margaret Flanagan with 45 points.
They won by two from Ann Casey and Betty O’Reilly with third place filled by Joan Murphy and Joan Barrett with 42 points. Mary Nagle and Marian Irwin with 24 points won the front nine while the back nine was won by Suzanne Deane and Nuala Healy with 22 points.
In the 9 hole singles Norah Power (26) won with 23 points from Ceilie Reilly (20) with 19 points.
The category winners were Carmel Verling (12) with 16 points, Clare Pyne (14) with 19 points and Caroline Magee (23) with 19 points.
Friday’s open singles was won by Leonard Coote (27) with 44 points from Mark O’Brien (16) with 39 points with third spot filled by Michael Byrt (14) with 38 points.
Thursday’s senior men’s outing was won by John C McNamara, Matt Flynn, Tommy Heath and Jimmy Kearns with 83 points. They were five ahead of Tony Lawlor, Brian Logue, Joe O’ Brien and Sean Ryan. In third place with 77 points were Pat G. McInerney, Peter Quinn, Kevin Murray and Jim Hennessey followed by Brendan Pyne, Seamus Bowe, Dave Boylan and PJ Hehir with 76 points.
In fifth place, also with 76 points were Liam Barry, Tim Scanlon, Peadar Cosgrove and Sean Fitzpatrick followed by Liam Pyne, Paul Mockler, John R Ryan and Joe O’ Connor with 75 points. They were followed by Johnny Kearse, Michael Kerin, John J Cullinan and Michael Ball also with 75 points with eighth spot filled by Noel Pilkington, Brian Tuohy, Terry Hughes and Gerry Kelly with 74 points. The ladies minor foursomes team lost out to Ballyheigue Castle in the Munster final in Roscrea on a score of 2.5 to 1.5 on Saturday.
Kilrush Golf Club:
Mary Bolton (19) with 39 points won the Clean Ireland ladies 18 hole singles stableford competition at Kilrush.
Category 1 (0-20) was won by Mary Nolan (20) with 39 points from Ann Marie Donnellan (17) with 38 points.
Category 2 (21-30) was won by Sheena Mahony (23) with 36 points from Helen Williams (28) with 35 points while category 3 (31 +) was won by Anne Marie Golden (44) with 38 points with second place filled by Grace Howard (32) also with 38 points.
The SuperValu open men’s singles competition was won by Michael J. Hogan (18) with 44 points. He had two to spare over Liam Griffin (18) from Luttrellstown Castle with Noel Kilkenny (20), also with 42 points, in third place followed by Brian Rogers (31) with 41 points. The gross was won by Padraic O’Dubhslaine with 33 points.
Gort Golf Club:
The winner of the men’s 18 hole singles competition at gort last weekend was Noel Ruane (19) with 45 points.
The category winners were Conor Shields (8) with 38 points, Martin Callanan (14) with 42 points and Martin Whelan (24) with 44 points while the gross was won by Joe Moran (1) with 35 points.
In Friday’s open singles Darragh Murphy (5) from Ennis won category 1 with 39 points, Malachy Whyte (16) won category 2 with 38 points and George Larkin (28) won category 3 with 44 points.. Joe Moran (1) won the gross with 31 points.
Last week’s ladies singles sponsored by Eurospar Kinvara saw Sinead Collins (9) win category 1 with 38 points. Category 2 was wn by Catherine Burke (28) with 39 points while category 3 was won by Catherine Bailey (39) with 37 points.
The Lady Gregory Hotel sponsored competition was won by Marcella Killeen (17) with 40 points from Teresa Helebert (26) with 39 points with third spot filled by Yvinne Hogan (24) with 39 points followed by Phil Mulkerrins (30) with 38 points.
