EX KERRY manager Peter Keane is to be proposed as the new Clare senior football manager.

Keane was in attendance in Cusack Park on Sunday for the TUS Clare SFC final as Éire Óg ran out winners over Kilmurry Ibrickane.

A four-person interview committee comprised of Clare GAA Head of Operations, Deirdre Murphy, Clare GAA Chairman, Kieran Keating, ex Clare minor manager Dermot Coughlan and former Clare forward David Tubridy have recommended Keane be appointed as the next county football manager.

This follows the month-long process where they interviewed several candidates for the role. Keane it is understood was the last person to enter the race to succeed Mark Fitzgerald.

He will be put forward for ratification at the November county committee meeting.

His two year term in charge of Kerry’s senior footballers ended in controversy in September 2021 when he was asked to reapply for the position following their All-Ireland semi-final loss to Tyrone.

Since then, the Caherciveen man was linked with the Tipperary job twelve months ago and more recently the Derry role but he is now set to manage Clare in 2025, a move which seemed very unlikely a week ago.

This recommendation from the four-person committee sees the former St Mary’s player selected ahead of Clare U20 boss Michael Neylon and two-time All-Ireland winner Declan O’Keeffe.

With Kerry, Peter has managed them to win three All-Ireland and Munster minor championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018 while at senior level the Kingdom won the 2019 Munster SFC title during his tenure.
